Eagle - Academics

Eagle –    High he hovers,
             O’er heath and field.
             Dive with daggers,
             Deadly to prey.

school.  Young Vikings may earn this award once per year.

Mentoring Challenge, Young Vikings earn +1 level for assisting peers or younger children in studies at school for
at least 4 cumulative hours.  This could have a mentoring theme, centered around specific tasks or challenges
already learned or simply may be academic tutoring in a school setting.  An equivalent task may be reading to
younger children in a day care setting at one hour per trip.  Contact your school to see what volunteer
opportunities exist in your area.   Young Vikings may earn this award once per year up to a maximum of 4 years.

Science Project Challenge, Young Vikings earn +1 level for creating and displaying a science project.
Conceptually, the project must be ‘show’ worthy within the context of the Young Viking’s age.  For example, the
creation of an electron magnet, a bug museum representing one sample from each insect family, mineral or
flora collection, etc.  Young Vikings may earn this award only once.

Book Report Challenge, Young Vikings earn +1 level for reading a book of Ásatrú interest (such as History of
the Vikings, or a dramatic novel of the Volsung Saga, etc).  Difficulty of the book and requirements of the
report should be based on the age of the reader.  Write a book report explaining some of the themes,
characters, style, setting, and tell us a little bit about the author.  Young Vikings may earn this award only
once.

Basic Chess Challenge: Young Vikings can earn +1 level for demonstrating competent
play, including knowledge of pieces and strategy.  Young Vikings may only earn this award once.

Competition Chess Challenge, Young Vikings can earn +1 level for being at a competition level of play.  United
