Basic Aid Training Challenge, Young Vikings receive +1 level for learning how to use their first aid kit located in
the home, vehicles or backpacks.  Subjects covered include cuts, blisters, bites, sprains, burns, cleanliness,
allergies, Lyme disease (if in your area), snake & spider bite, waterborne bacteria, poison oak, dehydration,
overheating injuries, prevention and when to call 911.  Many free online courses are available for download or a
good book will provide the structure a parent needs to teach this class.  Role playing and hands on treatment in
training scenarios are the best way to teach kids about First Aid.  Break the course up into several sessions
and recap previous material before testing.  Young Vikings may earn this level only once.

Back country Aid Challenge, Young Vikings receive +1 level for leaning back country first aid.  Many outdoors
recreation first aid courses can be found online or in books.  The focus of the curriculum will be bone
fractures, compound fractures, head & neck injuries, heat and cold injuries, dehydration, high altitude
sickness as well as a refresher of the Basic Aid subjects pertaining to the back country.  Although repeated
training is necessary for a Young Viking to give competent back country aid, they may earn this level only once.

CPR – Adult Challenge, Young Vikings receive +1 level for taking an accredited CPR course.   Though every child
is different, the vast majority of children do not have the arm strength to perform proper chest
compressions before the age of 14.  Furthermore, this is the same class an adult would take.  Refresher
courses are needed to remain officially certified.  Young Vikings may only earn this level once.

CPR – Infant Challenge, Young Vikings receive +1 level for taking an accredited CPR course.  Young Vikings must
have taken CPR – Adult prior to this course. Young Vikings may only earn this level once.

AED Challenge, Young Vikings receive +1 level for taking an accredited AED course.  Young Vikings must have
taken CPR adult prior to this course.  Young Vikings may earn this level only once.

First Aid Challenge, Young Vikings receive +1 level for taking an accredited First Aid course.  They are usually
held in conjunction with CPR / AED courses.  YMCA, American Red Cross and Adult Education programs offer
these above workshops.
